Bexley
In the middle of making out with Levi, his phones starts to blow up with text messages and phone calls.
With swollen lips I pull from Levi.
“Jesus Christ , what’s going on” he says grumbling as he pulls his phone from his pocket.
I stand in front of him, hands on his chest as the light of his phone illuminates his face as he reads his texts over his shoulder.
I slide my hands up and down his chest praying that he hurries so I can have more of his mouth. I lick my lips watching his face. But then my hands stop as I see the look on his face go from annoyed to shock.
“What? What is it?” I ask, turning my head to try to peek at his phone.
“Nothing” he says as he quickly puts his phone back in his pocket.
“Levi...” I say as he nods back toward where he parked his bike.
“We’ve gotta go” he says.
“What?” I say , blinking dumbly as he grabs my hand and then pulls me along with him as I walk fast to keep up with him.
“Lev what’s wrong? What happened?” I ask.
“You should check your phone probably” he says as I grab my tiny purse I left hanging off his bike and grab my phone out.
As I do, my phone starts to ring with my brother Bruno’s number.
“Hello?” I answer.
“Bexley” he says my name angrily. I feel my stomach drop. Does he know where I am ? Who I’m with?
“Where are you?” He asks in such urgency.
“With friends.” I answer.
“Where?” He asks more annoyed.
“At the park. By the lake. Why?” I ask.
“You need to get home. Now.” His voice is demanding.
“Okayyyy. Why? What’s wrong?” I ask, while looking to Levi. This can’t be good. Not if Levi looks this stressed and my brother sounds like he’s about to rip someone’s heart out with his bare hands.
“The fucking Hawks. That’s what. Get your ass home.” He says and hangs up the phone.
I stare at my phone. Then look at Levi.
“What’s happening?” I ask my hand shaking slightly.
He shakes his head. “Put your helmet on Bexley” he says handing it to me.
“Levi!” I yell at him as he throws his on and then lifts his leg over his bike.
“Tell me!” I shout while throwing my helmet on and sliding onto the back of the bike.
“I can’t” he says. “Just hang on.”
He turns on his bike as I hold onto him and we drive off.
My stomach turns with worry. What did his club do? Why is my brother pissed at them? And why had Levi looked so worried.
When Levi pulled up to the diner in between both towns. He idled his bike.
“I can’t take you home Bex. You have to call someone.” He says.
“What?” I ask.
“Until I know it’s safe. I can’t be seen Saintsville.” He says.
My eyes widen. “What do you mean until it’s safe?” My voice cracks with slightly fear.
“What the fuck is going on?” I ask as I slide off his bike and hand him his helmet back.
“I can’t explain it right now. You need to go home.” He says.
“Levi” I say.
But then he’s taking off on his bike without another word , without a backward glance.
Levi
Fucking hell. My dad just couldn’t leave well enough alone. I knew that we had voted , and I knew it was coming. I guess I’d hoped my dad would think better of it.
Saints of Black runs weapons. So do the Hawks. There’s been an understanding put in place back when I was little that we each kept to dealing to the gangs we were currently working with. We could both profit without any tensions between us.
My father and other members of the club had gotten greedy and were looking to expand their business. To make more money. And no new gangs were showing up, so they’d decided to move on Saints territory.
Apparently today one of the gangs had made it known to the the Saints that they’d no longer be dealing with them.
They didn’t need to tell Moses or his guys who exactly they were going with now. It was fucking obvious. And it was fucking stupid of us. I’d only been one of three who’d voted against it. The rest of them all voted to make the move. They wanted to dissolve the Saints completely. They wouldn’t say so. But I knew they’d been wanting it for a long time.
From what the texts say. A fire was set to one of the barn houses we use for exchanges. A complete loss. Someone or multiple someone’s from the Saints or working for them had doused the entire place with gasoline and struck a fucking match.
They knew everyone from both towns would have been at the fair. Everyone was always there the opening day.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. This wasn’t good, it wasn’t good at all. The Hawks had crossed a line, and now we’d been sent warning by way of them burning the whole fucking barn house to the ground.
When I pulled up to barn house all of the Hawks were there.
“Where the fuck were you?” My father says walking over , his face maybe more fucking furious than I’d ever seen it.
“Driving around. I got here as soon as I saw the messages. What the fuck happened?” I ask.
He gives me a glare and his nostrils flare.
“Fucking Saints.” He said. I nodded knowingly.
“I told we shouldn’t have moved on them.” I saw quietly. Which only earns me another glare. A warning glare.
“You thought they’d take that shit lightly ? You shit all over the agreement that has been in place for over a fucking decade.” I saw growling.
“Watch it boy” he says and spits on the ground and runs a hand through his hair.
“Fuck” I curse , kicking at the ground with my boot. Because now we were fucked. So we the Saints. Everyone was fucked. And now , we’d be back to dealing with more shit than we needed to.
“If we hadn’t moved. They would have.” He says grumbling.
I look at him. He knows that’s not true. Everyone knows Moses Black wasn’t planning on a damn thing against us. We had guys who worked for us that we paid to keep any eye on their club. Due to my fathers paranoia. One of the Saints lesser guys. Not a true member. But a runner for them.
“They fucking would have eventually” he spits again , because he knows it’s not true and he’s trying to convince himself that the huge pile of shit he’s just put us in wasn’t all for nothing.
“Well. Now what” I glare at him and gesture towards the barn.
“We’re just gonna burn each other’s shit down, till neither of us had a damn thing?” I growl.
“We can’t not retaliate Hawk” he says , again spitting on the ground.
I know to him I sound like a pussy , for not ever wanting to move on the Saints. But things were just fucking find the way they were. There wasn’t a god damn reason other than his greed for money and power, to move on them.
I wanted to tell him to count me out. But I knew I couldn’t fucking do that. Not when the club rules. We’d do what was voted. We couldn’t take back whatever deal they made with the gang they stole from the Saints. What’s done was fucking done.
I scrubbed my hands over my face. “Son of a bitch.” I muttered and walked over to the other guys. All of them angry , already plotting what would come next.
“Burn his god damn house down.” I heard someone grumble.
My heart thudded. I didn’t need to know whose house they meant. They meant Bexley’s house. Shit. Fuck. No. No it wouldn’t come to that. It couldn’t.
Bexley
My brothers and father weren’t there when I got home. My mother and my sister Brianna and Maeve were though.
“Jesus Christ Bexley!” My mother snapped as I walked through the door.
“Where the hell have you been?!” She yells.
“I came as soon as Bruno told me to. What happened?” I ask tossing my purse on the table near the door and walking into the living room where her my sister and Maeve all sat.
“I don’t know. All I know is that the Hawks fucked up.” She says stabbing out a cigarette in the ashtray she quit using 6 months ago. I figured this wasn’t the time to chastise her for picking up the habit again.
“Why? What’s going on?” I say sitting down in a recliner. Looking between all three of them.
Maeve speaks as my mother fumes and my sister Brianna just sits there bouncing her leg nervously.
“The Hawks went against an agreement they had with us ...well. With the club” she says and I just stare. Listening. Waiting for her to go on.
“And tonight .... there was a fire.” She adds.
My eyes widen. “What?! Where?! They set something on fire ?!”
Maeve looks at me. Shaking her head.
“Not the Hawks Bex. It was their own barn house that was burned down.” She adds.
“Fucking hell” my mother mutters. “I thought this fucking shit was over with.” She says striking her lighter and lighting another cigarette.
“We....we burned it down?” I say in a whisper.
Maeve shrugs. “You got any other guesses kid?”
I just sat there. Blinking. In stunned silence. My dad wouldn’t do that. But...wouldn’t he? If someone was creeping in on his means of income, his reputation?
“So...” I say. Thinking of Levi. Thinking of all of the Saints. All the men I cared about.
“What happens now?” I ask.
My mother shakes her head. “What happens now is you stay out of Hydale. Stay away from anyone associated with the fucking club.” She snaps and sucks a long hard drag of cigarette.
Levi. I had to stay away from Levi? I felt my heart sink. Selfishly. Because I wasn’t thinking of the war about to come, I was just thinking about not being kissed by Levi. My hands itches to walk over and grab my phone. To text him. To tell him, ..tell him what I don’t know. But to just talk to him. I needed to talk to him. I needed to see him.
